How is Shakespeare a "Renaissance man" ?
Well, the Renaissance was a time period in which many things in Europe were becoming more attractive. For example, architecture improved, things flourished, etc. Now, Shakespeare was considered one not only because he was living around during the Renaissance time period, but he also innovated the ways to express stories-through plays. His literature was far different than ever presented during his times, and it contained multiple literary devices used to add effect to his playwrights. He also starred in his own acts from time to time, and was known for having his audience react to each individual ending in a different manner. Overall, he was the father of playwrights, and made the common story-telling a more captivating thing to understand.
